The silver lining of Australia’s alcohol tax

With over 560 breweries across Australia and more than 2,400 wineries, it’s no surprise the population loves to drink.

But with the current cost of living crisis the price of items, including alcohol, are increasing.

As Australians struggle with finding ways to save cash, breweries are having to act on these changes. A wider variety of non-alcoholic alternatives are being introduced to the market to help with this change.

These alternatives are no longer limited to soft drinks or water, instead consumers can now choose a low or no alcohol version of an alcoholic drink.

The Owl’s Tia Priest-Willimott sat down with Richard Watkins, Head Brewer and Co-Founder of the Canberra-based Bentspoke Brewing Company, and Amanda George, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Canberra, to hear their thoughts on this unfolding situation.
